TABLE RONDE : la joie lesbienne ?!

Wether visible or invisible, sublimated or invisibilized, heroines or victims, lesbian women have undoubtedly entered an era of emancipation.

Lesbian women, present from the earliest days of feminist protests, have fought relentlessly for legal and economic equality. Does their history of struggle, both intimate and political, finally allow them to live a “great” life? Have they found their way, cured of their neurosis and shame, liberated from oppression? Are they now fulfilled, free, magicians?

If not in society, we find them in the visual arts.

Originally vampire lovers or sexual perverts, lesbian characters have shed their patriarchal garb to become sovereign women, masters of their social, sensual and sexual desires. Are these new representations, created by female artists and filmmakers, widespread enough? Are they easier to produce?

This round table asks a simple question: are lesbian women reconciled with their image?

Artist Jenifer Prince (Brazil) and filmmaker Claire Burger (France) are working to create models of today’s lesbian women. We talk to them about production and impact of sapphic images, those that make life joyful.
