Queerying Nature – perfect award – youth jury prize

how ethologists have actively contributed for centuries to the de-normalization of lgbtiq+ identities. here, pioneering and expert voices intertwine with the artistic practices of queer protagonists to deconstruct these instrumentalizing theories.

scientist Fleur Daugey, psychologist and philosopher Vinciane Despret, trans evolutionary biologist Joan Roughgarden, and biologist Thierry lodé, an expert in animal sexualities, share their thrilling revelations and dismantle normative theories.

a rich and inspiring movie where the desire for diversity meets an appetite for difference.

Prix du Jury des Jeunes

the film presented during the 2024 edition of Everybody’s Perfect won the youth jury prize!

sally ! – perfect award – lgbtqi+ memories

there are figures who have changed the world, often women rendered invisible by the dominant patriarchal culture. sally gearhart is one of them—a lesser-known companion of harvey milk, an openly gay teacher, a pioneer of gender studies, a radical feminist, perhaps even a separatist lesbian, and certainly charismatic and visionary.

this optimistic film highlights the character, bravery, and humor of this lgbtiq+ rights trailblazer. it paints the portrait of an icon whose defining vision was to imagine, articulate, and live out a lesbian utopia: escaping male-dominated cities to live among women, in harmony, close to nature.

the lgbtqi+ memories award from the city of geneva recognizes films that uncover invisibilized or taboo stories in cinema, aiming to share and represent them.

le prix mémoires LGBTQI+ Ville de Genève récompense

“the documentary sally ! contributes to restoring the memory of sally gearhart, notably through remarkable work on lesbian archives. for several years now, lesbian and queer communities in particular have been dedicated to documenting their own histories and those of lgbtiq+ communities.”

young hearts – perfect award – audience

young elias lives in the dutch countryside with his close-knit, ordinary family, except for his father, a semi-famous and narcissistic pop singer. when alexander moves in across the street, the 14-year-old boy seems captivated. slowly, they become friends. then, his feelings turn into love.

in this simple story, a unique authenticity emerges, the usual tragic obstacles dissolve, and shivers and tears of happiness take their place. it took until this year to see such a positive film, which thrilled crowds of teenagers (and adults!) at the latest Berlin festival.

Prix du public

this film, presented during the 2024 edition of everybody’s perfect, won the audience award!

when French gay porn was making it’s way to the cinema

Between 1975, when the “X” classification was introduced, and 1983, when VHS copies became more widespread and the HIV/AIDS epidemic began, 75 French homosexual pornographic films shot on film were officially released in cinemas. A quasi-fertile decade for gay porn cinema, with scripted works of undeniable cinematic quality, far removed from the pseudo-schematic scenarios of today’s porn industry.

Almost 50 years later, what do these works tell us about this unique period, when homosexuality was still criminalised? How did pornographic creation help to overcome power relations? Is gay porn culture linked to the activism of the 1970s? Who is responsible for this flourishing production? What erotic and sexual imaginaries are being constructed? And finally, what do these archival images tell us about our contemporary relationship with porn?

The discussion between Hervé Joseph Lebrun and Robin Corminboeuf invites us to travel back in time to understand this flourishing period of homosexual pornographic production.

With Hervé Joseph Lebrun, filmmaker and photographer, former director of the Chéries-Chéris festival, he is a specialist in French porn of the 1970s, and Robin Corminboeuf, former editor-in-chief of the queer Romand magazine 360° and author of a first novel, he is currently in charge of the press office of the Visions du Réel and GIFF festivals..

round table – lesbian joy?! Sunday 6th October, Grütli simon, dedication of her works during the festival

At the heart of Jenifer Prince’s work are sapphic stories told from a positive perspective.
Motivated by a desire to explore the endless possibilities of existing as a woman who loves women, the artist immerses herself in a vintage-inspired aesthetic, creating visual stories that evoke a sense of timelessness.
Her success on social media, with nearly 360,000 followers on Instagram, demonstrates the urgency for lesbian women to see themselves at their most beautiful in the mirror.

Jenifer Prince grew up in Brazil in a small, conservative town where there was a glaring lack of identity identification. She freely admits that coming to terms with her sexuality has been a long journey.
As part of her graphic design studies, she is passionate about researching LGBTQI+ documentation. Immersed in cinema, visual arts, and literature, she develops her art, which is naturally oriented towards activism.
It is the discovery of an Italian erotic comic book artist and his character Valentina that inspires her 1950s style, a period she sees as particularly hard for queer people. She wanted to subvert these representations.

What does the theme of the festival’s round table inspire in her: lesbian joy?! “The more we show it, the more we share it, the more it can manifest itself. Working together allows us to highlight lesbian women. We lack positive lesbian images, such as love and kissing without fear.”
